Jaben: Mat, do the English eat salted fish? Surely in days of yore, Le Anglais must have. I read somewhere the English even has something similar to the fish sauce the Chinese use… If I remember, it went something like… get ye an auld tub and throweth in dead fish. Leaveth it to rot and putteth in sea salt. Scoopeth out the juice of the dead fish…

I personaly have never had salted fish and i cant say i have heard of it until i started visiting your blog!
Though we do have fish sauce variations. I cant remember what its called, i will have to watch Delia tonight
You live in Singapore which had a massive fishing economy so im guessing it was just the poormans meal once over there? Thats why i have never heard of it maybe :S
Jaben: What’s Delia?
Update: I found out… BTW, the fishing economy does not exist… the neighbouring countries do the fishing… we do the eating, at least part of it.
Do you mean it doesn’t now, or ever?
As i’ve also thought singapore used to have a massive economy in fishing.
Delia is the queen of english cooking and i’m surprised you have never heard of her!
That hot dog sure looks tasty!
Jaben: Well certainly not now… in the past, I don’t think so too. Certainly being the Rome of this region, a lot of fishing from the neighbouring countries will probably discharge their goods here… anyone of you out there know anything?, please add some yadda… To my knowledge, the Thais and the Filipinos are huge… this is reflected by the number of Tuna cans you see in the supermarket.
Well, there will be lots of bones in that hot dog! and Mama dog will bite you…

Jaben: Hey, that’s what friends are for, no?
It seems my few visits turned this into a food blog in a hurry. Salted, smoked or both salted AND smoked foodstuff for everyone!
Erm. Sorry about that. Perhaps I’ll try and do some work for a while. These programs aren’t writing themselves.
Jaben: No, no, no… M, the truth is we are all enjoying it… me included. And, I want to know all about salted fish from the world over.
